Brandon College was affiliated with McMaster University and the Western Canadian Baptist Union until 1938, when the Baptist Union decided to no longer support the college for financial reasons. That same year, Brandon College became a non-sectarian corporation and affiliated with the University of Manitoba. BU was granted its charter on 5 June 1967 when Princess Alexandra and Her Excellency Angus Ogilvie visited Brandon.
After 1967, bachelor’s degree programming expanded and developed rapidly and continues to this day, replica Canada diploma. Since then, BU has been recognized for its liberal arts and science programs, and the number of students from rural Manitoba and beyond has been growing steadily. Its physical campus continues to expand (most recently including the 1997 Clark Hall and original building renovations, the 2003 Health Studies Building, and the 2013 Center for Healthy Living) to fill the campus west of downtown Brandon and now needs a Campus master planning to best accommodate future growth and update existing campus conditions.
